📖 What is Alcohol?
Alcohol is a depressant drug - it slows down your brain and body. Even though it's legal for adults, it can be very harmful, especially for young people whose brains are still developing.
⚠️ Effects on Your Body
- Brain: Slower reactions, poor judgment, memory problems
- Heart: Irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure
- Liver: Damage and disease with regular use
- Behavior: Risk-taking, accidents, saying things you regret
Why is it worse for young people? Your brain doesn't fully develop until age 25. Drinking while young can cause permanent damage and increases the risk of addiction later in life.
⚖️ The Law
- You must be 18 to buy alcohol
- It's illegal for someone to buy alcohol for you if you're under 18
- Police can stop and confiscate alcohol from under-18s
✏️ Activity: Saying No
Someone offers you a drink at a party. Write three ways you could refuse:
🛡️ Staying Safe
- You don't need alcohol to have fun
- Never leave your drink unattended
- Look out for your friends
- Call for help if someone seems very unwell
